What types of nutritional products does Vitamin Angels provide? | top We primarily provide child and adult multivitamins, prenatal vitamins, vitamin A supplements and antiparasitics. We may also have iron, iodine, and zinc supplements, and protein powders available. If you have a question about a particular nutritional supplement that is not on this list, please email donate@vitaminangels.org or call us at 805.564.8400. Does Vitamin Angels sell vitamins or other nutritional supplements? | top No. Vitamin Angels is not currently a manufacturer or retailer of any vitamins or supplements. Does VA provide grants, funding, or any other financial assistance to other organizations? | top No. Vitamin Angels is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that solicits funding and commodities from private foundations and corporations for our programs. At the current time, our limited financial resources are devoted primarily to providing micronutrient supplements to community-based implementation partners. We are unable to offer direct financial assistance and recommend that you consult www.interaction.org or www.charitynavigator.org for more information on how your organization can receive help. Does Vitamin Angels provide medications, other medical supplies, or clothing and food? | top No. Vitamin Angels does not provide medications (except for antiparasitics), medical supplies, clothing or food. Who can receive nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics from Vitamin Angels? | top Vitamin Angels provides nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics to medical groups, aid organizations, indigenous healthcare organizations, faith-based groups, government and non-governmental organizations both domestically and internationally. Does Vitamin Angels provide nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics to individuals? | top No. Unfortunately, Vitamin Angels does not provide assistance on an individual level. We sincerely apologize that we cannot do more to help you in your time of need, and recommend that you consult www.interaction.org or www.charitynavigator.org for more information on how you can receive help. Can non-medical groups apply for a donation? | top Yes. However, if you do not have a trained medical professional in your group, we require verification that the nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics are being stored and distributed by a healthcare or related facility, or individual in the community, who is responsible for ensuring that the products are properly and safely distributed.
When should I apply for a donation from Vitamin Angels? | top Please contact Vitamin Angels as early as possible. We request that you complete the application process a minimum of 2-3 months prior to your planned distribution. We have been undergoing large organizational growth and our global programs have been expanding over the past year. In addition, requests from other organizations for nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics have also increased dramatically. Consequently, the demand for donations is very high, so the more notice you give us before your planned distribution the better. What is the first step in receiving products from Vitamin Angels? | top Fill out the Recipient Application for Nutritional Donation and the Hold Harmless Agreement available on this page. Do I need to fill out the entire application? What if there are parts that don’t apply to me? | top We understand that not every group applying for a donation is the same, so please fill out the application as completely as possible. We need an overall picture of your organization and programs, including the total numbers of children, pregnant or lactating mothers, and adults that you are reaching annually. Can I email my application to Vitamin Angels? | top Yes, you may submit most of the application electronically. However, we must receive a fax, or a hardcopy of page 8 of the Recipient Application for Nutritional Donation, and the entire Hold Harmless Agreement since signatures are required. What is a Hold Harmless Agreement, and is it required to receive a donation? | top Vitamin Angels provides the products “as is,” without making express or implied warranties of any kind. The Hold Harmless Agreement releases us from any liability or responsibility as to how the products are received and used by donation recipients. All donation recipients are required to sign the Hold Harmless Agreement. How long will it take for my organization to receive a donation? | top Even if you qualify as a Vitamin Angels donation recipient, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet your needs. We have been undergoing large organizational growth and our global programs have been expanding over the past year. In addition, requests for nutritional supplements and/or antiparasitics from other organizations have also increased dramatically. We will try our best to provide donations to qualified applicants, however we may not be able to meet your immediate needs. Since our donated product inventory continually fluctuates, we encourage you to keep in contact with us, and we will alert you when the next opportunity arises. I’ve been matched with a product donation. What determines the amount of product I will receive? | top The amount of product your organization receives is based on three factors: 1) our current donated product inventory, and 2) the types of programs your organization provides, including the total numbers of children, pregnant or lactating mothers, and adults that you are reaching annually, and 3) our history with and confidence in your organization. Often we start with smaller donations, and then build our level of support based on need, communications and program success.
I’ve been matched with a product donation. What specifications will I receive about my product donation? | top If necessary, Vitamin Angels will provide a copy of the Certificate of Origin and the Certificate of Analysis provided by the manufacturer with specification information including: the manufacturer, dosage, ingredients, expiration dates, and storage information. I’ve been matched with a product donation. Who pays for the shipping of my donation? | top In many circumstances, your donation will be shipped anywhere in the United States free of charge. However on occasion, the product may need to be picked up at the manufacturer’s warehouse, or your organization may have to cover the cost of shipping the product from our office to your receiving location. Will Vitamin Angels pay to ship my product donation outside of the United States? | top No. In many circumstances, your product donation will be shipped anywhere in the United States free of charge. Your organization is then responsible for covering shipping charges from the US to your receiving location abroad. What documents will I need to clear customs in my receiving country? The specific documents required and the process for customs clearance vary with each country. Along with the Certificate of Origin and the Certificate of Analysis provided by the manufacturer, Vitamin Angels will provide a Certificate of Donation and a Commercial Invoice/Packing List for your product donation. In most cases, this documentation will suffice for clearing customs. It is your responsibility to be familiar with the complete process of clearing customs and to alert us to any special requirements. Do I need to contact Vitamin Angels to confirm receipt of my product donation? | top Yes, we ask that you email us at donate@vitaminangels.org or call us at 805.564.8400 to confirm receipt of your product donation.
Does Vitamin Angels provide any educational information about vitamin A or other micronutrient supplementation distribution? | top Yes, we provide educational posters/handouts for vitamin A, multivitamin and prenatal supplements in our Education Toolkit. Additional information about vitamin A supplementation is available in our Education Toolkit under Vitamin Angels Distribution Education Instructions. Does Vitamin Angels require reporting following the distribution of products? | top Yes, we require reporting on the details of your organization’s nutritional supplement and/or antiparasitic distribution. The Distribution Reporting Form will be provided with the rest of the product specifications and documentation, and is also available on our website. In addition, photographs of distributions and personal stories are key information that will provide Vitamin Angels and our donors with tangible and compelling evidence of not only the need for nutritional supplements, but also the positive impact. Only organizations that complete and return the Distribution Reporting Form in a timely fashion will be eligible to receive future donations. |
